Who We Are
A Life Worth Living — Inspired by Sophia
The Life Worth Living Project began with a love that will never fade — the love of two parents for their daughter, Sophia. Bright, kind, and courageous, Sophia was proudly gay and unafraid to be herself in a world that didn’t always understand. Her compassion, creativity, and authenticity continue to inspire this mission. In her honor, Kristen and Frederick Arnhoelter created the Life Worth Living Project to carry forward her light — building a world where every young person feels seen, accepted, and supported for exactly who they are, and where love, kindness, and connection lead the way.
Sophia was a bright light in this world. She was kind, creative, and endlessly compassionate, always noticing when someone needed a friend or a little extra care. She had this beautiful gift for making others feel seen — whether through her laughter, her art, or her quiet presence. She loved deeply, gave freely, and brought joy wherever she went.
And yet, like so many young people, Sophia faced moments of deep, hidden pain — the kind that can’t always be seen, even by those who love you most. In August 2023, that pain became too heavy, and she could no longer carry it. Losing her shattered our world. But even in our grief, one thing remained clear: Sophia’s light was never meant to disappear.
We — her parents, Kristen and Frederick — founded the Life Worth Living Project to carry that light forward. To honor Sophia’s life by helping other young people find hope, healing, and reasons to stay.
Our Vision
A world where no one struggles alone, where compassion and empathy for yourself and others lights the path to connection, healing, hope, and where stigma is eliminated.
Our Mission
The Life Worth Living Project is dedicated to supporting and strengthening youth mental health and emotional well-being. Our mission is to nurture kindness, compassion, empathy, and resilience — giving young people the tools and support they need to navigate life’s challenges and know that they matter.
We partner with schools, families, and mental health professionals to create programs and resources that meet kids and teens where they are — in classrooms, at home, and in their communities.
•Resilience & Emotional Wellness Programs — evidence-based lessons that help students build self-awareness, coping skills, and emotional strength.
•Community Compassion Initiatives — uniting families, educators, and neighborhoods in kindness, inclusion, and understanding.
•Youth Advocacy & Awareness — empowering young voices to speak openly about mental health and remind each other that their lives have immeasurable worth.
Each of these efforts carries a piece of Sophia’s heart — her empathy, her courage, and her belief that kindness can change everything.
Carrying Her Light
Grief may have started our journey, but love gives it purpose.
Through the Life Worth Living Project, we carry Sophia’s light into the world — in every classroom conversation, every act of compassion, every young person reminded that they are never alone.
This is Sophia’s legacy, and it is now our life’s work: to create a world where every child feels valued, supported, and capable of thriving.
Because every life has meaning.
Every soul has worth.
And every young person deserves to know —
Your life means so much.
With love,
Kristen and Frederick Arnhoelter
